A Funnel Cake Story
Imagine a young dreamer, just 10 years old, wandering through Carowinds Amusement Park. He takes a bite of his first funnel cake, and in that instant, his world changes. That dreamer was Patrick D. Young, and that moment sparked a love so deep that he went home determined to recreate that same magic in his own kitchen. After countless attempts and more flour than you can imagine, Patrick finally perfected his recipe, and it wasn’t long before he was sharing his funnel cakes with friends and family, watching as their faces lit up with joy.
Fast forward a few years, and Patrick, now 16, lands his first job at that very same amusement park. Driven by passion and fueled by determination, he quickly rises to become one of the youngest food and beverage managers, overseeing the funnel cake stands that had once inspired him. But his story doesn’t end there—it’s just beginning.
After earning degrees in Accounting and Business Management, Patrick realized it was time to turn his lifelong dream into reality. With unwavering faith, a lot of prayer, and the support of his family and community, FUNOHCAKES was born. What started as a childhood love has now grown into a brand that brings joy to thousands across North and South Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia. From serving race fans at the Charlotte Motor Speedway to partnering with Carowinds for their music festivals, FUNOHCAKES has become a symbol of happiness, community, and the power of a dream.
But Patrick’s journey isn’t just about funnel cakes—it’s about giving back. In 2013, he launched the "Refuse to Lose and Stay in School" event at The Salvation Army Center of Hope, a cause that’s deeply personal to him. Through this event, he inspires children to dream big and stay in school, just as he did.
